Camp Doha
Hello from Baghdad. I officially have my "boots on the ground" and my countdown begins. I spent 24 hours in Kuwait getting situated then took a c130 flight to Baghdad. Our flight had a slight detour to Jordan to pick up some VIPS. The VIPs included about 15 senators, congressmen and their staff including Dem Nancy Pelosi. (If we had been informed of the detour everyone would have passed on the flight.) It added about 6 hours to our trip. The plane ride was very noisy, but fairly comfortable. The tactical descent into Baghdad International Airport had my stomach churning. While in Jordan all the fellows peed on the side of the tarmac but I walked into the airport in my fatigues and used the restroom. None of the Jordanians even batted an eye.
My accomodations in Baghdad are nice. I have a private room with internet access. What more could a girl want. I just found out I will be staying in this area for the rest of the deployment. I still have a couple days to aclimate then it is off and running. The cafeteria is in an old palace, and I believe our combat stress unit is located in an old brothel. I have been sending some pix to jay and when he has time he will post some on our website. Keep sending comments and email.

You are born again hard! Jay showed us some of your pictures from Iraq...did I mention "born again hard". Seeing you in your fatigues kind of makes it real, I am so proud of you and wish I could high five you or something. You know I have issues with contact when I get excited about something and have to hit or stem, why is that? Anyway, good to know that you have internet access, we will be checking often for updates.

Unfortunately the VIPs failed to talk to the soldiers. They asked if anyone was from California, and when there were none they just talked to each other.
Hello Heidi,
Sorry it has taken me so long to write.I've had a nasty worm on my computer and it has been out of commission for several weeks. I just read your journal and it is fascinating. I am pleased to hear you are doing well. I hope the time passes quickly and you will return to us soon. Things here in Derby are going well. Your/our patients miss you and all ask how you are doing or if I have heard any news. I wasn't sure if you were comfortable with patients having your web information, so I will just pass news on to them as I get it.
I want you to know, you are in my prayers and I think of you often.
We miss you!
Glenda
